Neck and Décolleté Neglect

neck_neglectAre you paying attention to these special areas?

Spring is here, which means we finally get to pack away the sweaters and flaunt the tank tops and sundresses! But, many of us still try to cover up during this hot, humid time of year to hide unsightly brown spots and wrinkles on the neck and chest area, causing us to be uncomfortable and insecure.  It doesn’t have to be that way this year!  Read on to learn how to get your delicate neck and décolleté areas ready for some outdoor fun!

The neck and décolleté areas are the most neglected areas when it comes to skincare, yet they are extremely vulnerable to wrinkles and require special care. These sensitive areas must be cared for just like your face and body if you want beautiful skin all over.

While acne and other skincare issues are not prominent in these areas, the lack of care is eventually revealed through dark, dry, flaky skin, dark spots, and deep wrinkles.   Your esthetician can create a program to help restore soft, vibrant skin.  Call today to reserve your consultation.

To reveal glowing, healthy skin in the neck and décolleté areas between spa visits, follow these tips:

  • Moisturize!! Be sure to include the neck and chest areas when completing your daily face and body moisturizing regimen.
  • Use a thicker night cream before bed to restore firmness and softness.
  • Be sure to exfoliate weekly at home between spa visits to keep skin soft and supple.
  • Most importantly, ALWAYS use sunscreen with a high SPF when outdoors to avoid the sun’s damaging rays.

For best results and to keep your skin looking healthy and young, be as consistent as possible with your skincare routine while following your esthetician’s recommendations.

Here’s to healthy, vibrant skin all season long!

Spring into Action! (Part 1 of 2)

Reveal your vibrant, healthy side this spring!

The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and it’s warming up outside.  Finally, spring is here!! What a perfect time to jump start a complete tune-up of your body, mind, and soul as you prepare for the carefree months ahead! Read on for tips to get healthy…inside and out.

  •  Eliminate bad habits. We all have those annoying little habits that need to be addressed.  Do you procrastinate?  Do you overspend when you hit the mall? Have you been sliding into work a few minutes late?  Take this opportunity to recognize your areas of weakness and make the necessary adjustments to rid yourself of these pesky behaviors. Achieving self- discipline is a great way to boost your self-esteem.
  • Give your diet a complete overhaul.  Eating well is not just about losing weight.  It’s about being healthy. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats is essential for good health.  It’s a lifestyle, not a weight-loss fad.  When we put healthy food inside of us, we feel better and we look better.  Go ahead and commit to being healthy!
  • Make fitness fun!  Shed winter weight gain.  It’s a fact, most people gain at least a pound, if not more, during winter.  If you choose an activity you enjoy doing, you are more likely to stick to it.  Involve the whole family or perhaps a friend.  Go bike riding together or take a walk together a few times a week.  Get together for a game of touch football or basketball.  You don’t have to go to a gym to be fit.  Gather family members or friends and get moving!

Happy Valentine’s Day from Spa Mariana

Stick to your New Year’s Resolutions in 2014! (Part 2 of 2)

You may also want to add antioxidants to your diet to help fight cancer, inflammation and heart disease.  Potatoes, beans, cherries, apples, plums, and even chocolate contain antioxidants. Yum!

Toss out the white bread and pasta and switch to whole grain breads, pasta, rice and cereals. Along with assisting with weight management, whole grains help reduce the risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer, and high blood pressure as well as other health issues.

And, of course, increase your intake of fruits and vegetables.  Fruits and vegetables provide us with all those necessary vitamins and minerals our bodies need to function and look their best.

ALWAYS wear sunscreen.  Over time, the sun’s harmful rays cause wrinkles, blotchiness, brown spots, and yes, skin cancer.  Do yourself a favor and commit to wearing sunscreen every time you step outdoors.  Your soft, supple, blemish-free skin will thank you!

Reserve some ME time.  We are constantly on the go with work and family.  Our lives are so busy.  It’s easy to become overwhelmed and exhausted.  Your most important New Year’s Resolution must be to take care of yourself.  Go ahead and reserve some time to relax and unwind at the spa.  Commit to treating yourself the way you deserve to be treated.

You don’t have to dread making New Year’s Resolutions in 2014.  Commit to these sensible, realistic resolutions and enjoy a safe, healthy, prosperous New Year!

P.S.  You can always consult with a wellness coach to help you create a wellness program just for you! (Insert if your spa offers wellness)

Vanish Your Stress! – Spa Mariana Blog Post

vanish-stress-opt1Is the long, 40+ hour week in addition to daily family obligations taking its toll on you? A long day at work followed by duties at home can deplete your energy and fill you with stress. Did you know that a majority of all adults suffer adverse health effects from stress, including heart problems, diabetes, skin problems and depression?   That’s why it’s so important to find ways to relax and de-stress so you can be the best YOU possible!  Try these suggestions to unwind after a pressure-filled day.

  • Keep the office in its place. Once you walk out of the office, leave all that “work stuff” behind.  Worrying all night over a negative meeting or bad encounter with your boss is not going to fix the situation.  It will only make you miserable.  Leave it at work and enjoy your family for the rest of the evening.

  • Exercise. Believe it or not, exercise in any form reduces stress.  It pumps up your endorphins for that “feel-good” effect while improving your mood and building self-confidence.  Whether you take a yoga class, spin class, or briskly walk around the block, get yourself moving!  You will immediately feel better!

  • Get a Massage. Visit the spa on your way home and relax with a deep tissue massage to lower your blood pressure, and reduce stress hormone levels as well as heart rate.  You will feel rejuvenated!  You can’t afford to miss out on these healthy benefits!

  • Take a Bubble Bath. A bubble bath is a great way to unwind.  It gives you some necessary “ME” time and eases muscle aches. Add in a dash of de-stressing bath salts to aid in the relief of tired, sore muscles.  Light some candles, turn on the music and RELAX!!

  • De-stress Your Face.  Stress can cause acne, rosacea, cold sores, psoriasis, and other unsightly blemishes.  Let your spa team develop the best treatment plan to keep you looking radiant and healthy.  Don’t allow daily stress to deprive you of your beauty!

  • Get a spa mani/pedi.  Most manicures and pedicures include exfoliation of the skin to remove dead cells, smoothing the surface and stimulating regeneration. Special treatments and moisturizers are massaged into the arms, hands, legs and feet to improve blood flow and relieve aches and pains. All of this while you sit back and relax.  And you leave with fabulous looking hands and feet!  What more can a girl ask for?

Learning to take care of yourself is a process. The demands of daily life aren’t going away.  However, you can learn to manage the stress from these occurrences by investing in yourself.  Take some time out, unwind, and enjoy being you!

What Does Reflexology Do?

About-Reflexology

Reflexology can relieve stress and tension within the body. It improves circulation and lymphatic flow and works to unblock nerve impulse pathways. These benefits all work toward helping the body to heal itself by restoring balance to the vital energies.

According to Shelly Hess, author of The Professional’s Reflexology Handbook, “Reflexology works to discover how the soft tissue organs and the entire skeletal system are functioning. Through trained fingers, the reflexologist can detect early warning signs that the body is struggling and can then help restore the internal system to better balance.” [Read more…]
