EveryBody Deserves a Massage!

woman-massageThe week of July 13-19 this year is “Everybody Deserves a Massage Week,” which is a nationwide event for massage therapists coast to coast created by the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals organization. Well, naturally, we could not agree more that everyone not only deserves to treat himself or herself to a rubdown regularly, but their mind, body, and spirit actually needs it. Here are 10 reasons why you should book your massage today!

De-Stress: The simplest benefit of getting a massage of any kind (but especially Swedish, aromatherapy, or hot stone massage) is to zone out, relax, and unwind. With relaxing music setting the mood, a soothing scent in the air, and healing hands melting your troubles away, all of your stress and worries disappear.

Be Happy: Massage is also known to help with depression and anxiety. Aside from the fact that when we are relaxed, we naturally have less negative feelings of any kind, massage is also known to reduce the levels of the stress hormone cortisol. It’s also known to boost what is referred to as the “happy hormones” of serotonin and dopamine.

Sore No More: Before popping a pain reliever for the sore, stiff, or aching muscles from gardening, sitting at your computer too long, or that intense work out you just endured, try a nice, long massage instead. Stick to your New Year’s Resolutions in 2014! (Part 2 of 2)

You may also want to add antioxidants to your diet to help fight cancer, inflammation and heart disease.  Potatoes, beans, cherries, apples, plums, and even chocolate contain antioxidants. Yum!

Toss out the white bread and pasta and switch to whole grain breads, pasta, rice and cereals. Along with assisting with weight management, whole grains help reduce the risk of stroke, type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer, and high blood pressure as well as other health issues.

And, of course, increase your intake of fruits and vegetables.  Fruits and vegetables provide us with all those necessary vitamins and minerals our bodies need to function and look their best.

 

ALWAYS wear sunscreen.  Over time, the sun’s harmful rays cause wrinkles, blotchiness, brown spots, and yes, skin cancer.  Do yourself a favor and commit to wearing sunscreen every time you step outdoors.  Your soft, supple, blemish-free skin will thank you!

Reserve some ME time.  We are constantly on the go with work and family.  Our lives are so busy.  It’s easy to become overwhelmed and exhausted.  Your most important New Year’s Resolution must be to take care of yourself.  Go ahead and reserve some time to relax and unwind at the spa.  Commit to treating yourself the way you deserve to be treated.

Here Come the Holidays! (Part 1 of 2)

here-come-holiday-imageThe holidays are here and with them come the parties, dances, family gatherings, and charitable events.  Are you ready for all the excitement? We all want to look fabulous for these festive occasions.  Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare.  Plan your look ahead of time for you and your mate! Check out these great ideas to help you celebrate in style!

Ladies, obtaining the perfect outfit is your first priority.  First, make a mental note of all the events you will attend.  Are you celebrating with co-workers, friends, or both?  Keep in mind, your dress at an office party should definitely be more conservative than that of a party with friends and family.

The popular little black dress is always a safe bet.  You can accessorize to fit the occasion! Dress it up with sexy heels, earrings, a necklace, etc., or add a pop of color with a silky, red scarf, red lips and red nails.   Or, downplay it a bit for that business party with modest heels and jewelry, and neutral makeup and nail tones.  It depends on the statement you want to make.

It’s Time For School! Part 2

1. Get that skin in order!  We all know teenage skin problems can reduce self-esteem.  Schedule an appointment for a facial and send your teen to school looking and feeling great!

2. Mark your calendar.  Carefully read all the forms the school provides so you know what is expected of you and your child this year.  Post important dates on the family calendar hanging in the kitchen or other common area. The best way to start this school year is by being prepared and being aware of school events.

3. Spend time with your family.  If you manage your time efficiently, you can have all the shopping and other important tasks completed before the start of school approaches.  Gather your family on that last free weekend and enjoy a picnic in the park. Let the kids pick out their favorite movie for a movie and popcorn night.  Whatever the activity may be, spend a day reveling in your family.  Frenzied days of homework assignments, science projects and ball games are ahead!

And finally, make time for you!  After taking care of everyone else, make an appointment for a relaxing spa treatment!
