fall-trends-opt2-Spa MarianaIt might not seem like it, but fall is in full effect! That fall freshness is in the air and you can sit outside to enjoy a pleasant breeze. How nice! But, you also need to spruce up that wardrobe, update that hairdo, repair your skin and refresh your make-up so you can be stylish and look your best this fall. Here’s what’s trending this year:

Neutrals are big this year. Consider shades of gray, such as charcoal and slate, the new neutral this season. Check out Michael Kors and Oscar De La Renta for classic ideas.

Color-blocking various colors in one outfit in hues that are a bit off are also popular for fall. Don’t be surprised if you see black, white, navy and camel in one ensemble. DKNY, Victoria Beckham and The Row have some interesting variations of this fashion trend.

Green is the “go to” color this year. Deep, rich shades of green paired with black scarves, boots, and gloves are a must. Look for Kenneth Cole and Calvin Klein to lead the pack with this new trend!

• Another must-have for fall is leather. It’s back and it’s bold! We’re going to see that “street-wise gone classy” look in leather this year. From boots to skirts, to pants, to overcoats….leather is making a comeback! Altuzarra, Donna Karan and Lacoste are just a few of the big names showcasing chic looks in leather this season.

Garlic Shrimp With Asparagus and Lemon – Spa Mariana

Garlic Shrimp With Asparagus and Lemon

Ingredients:

1 lb shrimp, medium to large, peeled and deveined
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt (to taste)
black pepper, to taste
1 lemon
4 tablespoons olive oil or 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
4 medium garlic cloves, sliced thinly
3/4 lb asparagus, tough ends snapped off and cut into 2 inch lengths (about 2 cups)
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
2/3 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon cornstarch

Directions:

Place shrimp on paper towels and dry very well.

 

Sprinkle shrimp with a bit of the salt and pepper.

Using a vegetable peeler, peel off strips of the lemon peel and then cut the strips into very thin long pieces; be

sure to peel only the yellow part of the peel, not the bitter white part.

 

Cut lemon in half and juice it into a small dish, removing seeds.

Heat a deep 12 inch skillet (preferably NOT non-stick) over medium high heat for 1 minute.

Add 2 Tbsp of the oil and heat until it’s shimmering hot — just a few seconds.

 

Add the shrimp in a single layer and do not disturb it; let cook for about 2 minutes until browned.

Turn shrimp over and brown the other side, about 1 1/2 minutes, then transfer to a plate. Shrimp should not

be cooked through.

Reduce heat to medium-low and add garlic, stirring for 30 seconds.
Add asparagus, lemon zest strips, red pepper flakes and a bit of salt and cook, stirring for 2-3 minutes.

Add chicken broth and cover, simmering for 1-2 minutes until asparagus is almost done.

Stir cornstarch with 1 Tbsp water and stir into the pan.

Add shrimp back to the pan and cook another 1-2 minutes until done.

Stir in 1 Tbsp lemon juice, then taste and add more juice, salt and pepper if needed.

It’s Time For School! Part 2

1. Get that skin in order!  We all know teenage skin problems can reduce self-esteem.  Schedule an appointment for a facial and send your teen to school looking and feeling great!

2. Mark your calendar.  Carefully read all the forms the school provides so you know what is expected of you and your child this year.  Post important dates on the family calendar hanging in the kitchen or other common area. The best way to start this school year is by being prepared and being aware of school events.

3. Spend time with your family.  If you manage your time efficiently, you can have all the shopping and other important tasks completed before the start of school approaches.  Gather your family on that last free weekend and enjoy a picnic in the park. Let the kids pick out their favorite movie for a movie and popcorn night.  Whatever the activity may be, spend a day reveling in your family.  Frenzied days of homework assignments, science projects and ball games are ahead!

And finally, make time for you!  After taking care of everyone else, make an appointment for a relaxing spa treatment!
